In the wake of the tragic passing of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, she did a beautiful thing meant to honour their legacy and mark their impact on many lives. Now, she's sadly passed away herself, and the hockey community is ensuring she gets the credit she deserves.
Johnny Gaudreau and brother Matthew passed away after being hit by a car in August while preparing to attend their sister's wedding in New jersey. Johnny Gaudreau's team, the Columbus Blue Jackets had a large ceremony in his honour on opening night. However, Susie Diaz, an usher for the San Jose Sharks, wanted to make sure Blue Jackets' players and fans knew that the hockey community was mourning with them during their first matchup of the 2024-25 regular season, which is set for tonight. She suggested that all arena staff where "13" pins when Columbus came to town, a suggestion the team went with. Unfortunately, Susie sadly passed away herself before she could see her vision come to realization.
Susie Diaz's cause of death has not been released, but hockey fans are applauding her suggestion for honouring Johnny Gaudreau, whose mother recently put out a public statement after a rough week in Columbus. It's a simple thing, but those are often best when it comes to marking a legacy and remembering someone who has had an impact on so many lives.
While Susie may not get to see it, it's fantastic to see the San Jose Sharks going ahead with her idea, honouring two people at the same time. Excellent work!
