Sidney Crosby watched Team Canada lose Olympic hockey gold to Team USA, and Canada is terrified it was his last Olympics.

His statement after the loss is what the talk around the web is at the moment, and there's new details revealed.
Sunday’s final in Milan ended 2-1 for the Americans in overtime. Jack Hughes scored 1:41 into the extra frame, and it felt like a punch that never stops landing.
But the score is only half the ache. The other half is the empty spot where Crosby usually lives, right in the middle of Canada’s calm.
Crosby didn’t play, ruled out with a lower-body injury that started in the quarterfinal against Czechia on Wednesday. He left that game and never made it back into this tournament.
The news landed hard because it was so late. An hour before puck drop, Canada had to accept it and move on anyway.
You could see the plan without him. Shorter shifts, quicker chips, and a lot more Connor McDavid trying to solve the whole problem himself.
Canada still pushed. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 41 shots, and the door stayed shut even when the pressure felt like it should crack.
Then overtime arrived and one turnover turned into a souvenir for the Americans.
Sidney Crosby leaves Team Canada with a brutal void
This is the part where Canadian fans get quiet, not angry, just scared.
Because the question isn’t only “what if he played?” The question is “what if that was it?”
Crosby himself admitted he was very close to playing. He was very emotional, and said it was ultimately his best decision for the team.
Crosby gave Canada its most replayed Olympic moment in 2010. Seeing him in street clothes for this one makes the whole era feel fragile.
The injury talk has been vague on purpose, day-to-day, imaging, a lot of crossed fingers. That usually means nobody wants to guess out loud.
And that’s why this loss stings different. It’s not just a silver, it’s the fear of a goodbye that didn’t get a proper shift.
If this really was Crosby’s last Olympics, it ended on the wrong side of 2-1. Now we all wait for the next milestone, and hope he gets one more chance to write the ending.
