The Tampa Bay Lightning have decided to sit one of their star players after he broke one of the oldest team rules in the NHL
It's not the first time recently for a player from the Tampa Bay Lightning to get benched for missing a team meeting, but this time it's one of the Bolts' stars.
Brayden Point, who is well on his way to his third 90-plus point season in a row, will not suit up for the Lightning tonight as the team takes on the Boston Bruins.
The decision was made after Brayden Point broke the age-old rule on missing team meetings.
Rotowire reports that Point not playing on Tuesday will likely be the end of his punishment.
"This is likely to be a one-game absence for Point as head coach Jon Cooper sends a message on accountability. Jack Finley is projected to play, while Anthony Cirelli and Nick Paul figure to receive a larger share of ice time in Point's absence." Point is having another fantastic year for Tampa Bay, with 25 goals and 46 points in 37 games so far in 2025-25. His 12 powerplay goals are more than the entire New York islanders team combined.
Earlier this season, Kevin Fiala shared Point's fate when he missed a team meeting and was scratched by the LA Kings.
This is a big game tonight for both the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Boston Bruins, as the Bolts are currently just two points ahead of Boston for third place in the Atlantic Division.
