Ahead of the 4-Nations Face-Off, Team Canada has placed the top forward Mark Scheifele on alert in case they have to replace their captain, Sidney Crosby, following his injury scare.
Sidney Crosby temporarily left a game against the New Jersey Devils a few days ago after an awkward collision with Luke Hughes and Erik Haula.
Even though he managed to return to the game, he didn't take part in the team practice the following day, raising concerns for his health as well as his status for the 4-Nations Face-Off.
Despite the great news provided by his head coach Mike Sullivan that confirmed Crosby could take part in the Penguins' game today against the Philadelphia Flyers, Team Canada has apparently started thinking about who could fill in if injuries strike the roster.

About his potential replacement, the renowned Darren Dreger revealed that the Winnipeg Jets forward has been placed on alert to potentially replace any injured players in the upcoming tournament.

Crosby would be a huge loss for Team Canada, but Scheifele has been having a great season with the Jets this year, tallying 63 points in 56 games.
While some fans would have liked to see Nick Suzuki be the one to get the call, Scheifele has been a key part of the Jets' success this year, while Suzuki and the Montreal Canadiens haven't been able to keep their rhythm.
Despite questions surrounding Scheifele's past controversies about his alleged toxic traits, it seems Team Canada simply want to take the best players available.
