The Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks each placed a defenseman on waivers today, as Ian Mitchell and Lucas Carlsson respectively were waived by their clubs.
The Boston Bruins made some roster transactions as they waived defenseman Ian Mitchell earlier today. The club also sent players Fraser Minten, Fabian Lysell, Vinni Lettieri, John Farinacci, and Frederic Brunet to the Providence Bruins.
The transactions are among the changes the Bruins are making now that their season has officially come to an end.
Mitchell, 26, played in 15 Boston games this year, posting one assist, 23 blocked shots, and a minus-2. Offensively, he played stronger when he played in Providence, posting four goals to go along with earning 27 points through 46 contests.
Mitchell would have to clear waivers to be sent down to Providence when they start playing in the postseason, which means he can still be claimed.
Boston's lackluster 2024-25 season ended in their hard-fought, 5-4 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils on April 16.
With their season now behind them, Boston will be facing an off-season of whether or not to overhaul and make some major adjustments in order to be ready for the start of the 2025-26 season.
Everyone will be keeping an eye out to see how the team responds during this crossroads, and GM Don Sweeney will really have his work cut out for him.
Lucas Carlsson was also waived today by the Sharks
Meanwhile, the San Jose Sharks themselves were not idle in reshuffling their roster, waiving Lucas Carlsson in their ongoing attempt to rebuild their team.
Carlsson played in 12 NHL games this season with the Sharks, scoring just one goal and adding three assists for a total of four points.
The Sharks on on the right track with Macklin Celebrini set to become a perennial superstar, and the team will also once again have a very high draft pick this summer.
