Unprofessional 'journalist' who broke Johnny Gaudreau story let go from job
The 'journalist' who broke Johnny Gaudreau story has officially 'parted ways' with website he worked for.
The hockey world awoke this morning to the terrible news of the death of Johnny Gaudreau. The 31-year-old was killed last night alongside is brother Matthew Gaudreau, 30, after the two men were killed on their bicycle while out for a ride. A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged with two counts of vehicular homicide.
With the hockey world in mourning attention has turned to the 'journalist' who shared the unsubstantiated report that led to the initial reaction. That reporter has begun to receive backlash from prominent members of the hockey community including Tony Androckitis.
A tip to aspiring sports journalists:
Some things just aren't worth being 'first' to report.
When it comes to the tragic death of an athlete, & to a lesser degree retirement from the game, just let the player/team/family release a statement & be the source to share that news.
You can have your story written and ready to release as soon as it becomes official.
There's literally nothing to gain from making that info public before it's appropriate.
Now Flyers Nitty Gritty, the website who has employed the individual who reported the unsubstantiated reported has made the decision to part ways with the writer.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Gaudreau Family and anyone impacted by this tragedy. However, this is a stark reminder of the importance of journalistic integrity and privacy. Reports continue to surface that fans last night attempted to directly message the family of Gaudreau trying to confirm his involvement.
It remains incredibly important to respect the privacy of everyone involved in this tragedy at this time
