The Washington Capitals and T.J. Oshie have released statements on his status for the upcoming season, and the veteran's career appears to be in jeopardy
37-year-old T.J. Oshie of the Washington Capitals is one of those National Hockey League players that just about everyone likes and/or has respect for. Unfortunately for the veteran, it looks like ion playing days are numbered, if there are any left at all.
"Washington Capitals alternate captain T.J. Oshie completed his medical exam today, and his status is listed as injured. Oshie is expected to be placed on the long-term injury reserve list during the 2024-25 season."
T.J. Oshie said in the release that his intention is to return to the ice, but he's aware that may not happen.
"I have used the offseason to explore and pursue long-term solutions for my injury. I remain committed to the process and am working and doing my best to regain total health. In the meantime, I will continue to help and support my teammates and the organization in any way I can. I greatly appreciate all of our fans' support during this time."
T.J. Oshie's current contract, an eight-year deal that expires at the end of the 2024-25 season, carries a $5.75 million cap hit that the Washington Capitals will be able to utilize while he's on LTIR. Oshie has played over 1000 games in his lengthy NHL career, netting 302 goals and 695 points.
