As the Stanley Cup playoffs begin and National Hockey League salary cap not in play, the Vegas Golden Knights have announced that Right Winger Mark Stone has been activated off LTIR and will be in the lineup for game one against the Winnipeg Jets.

Stone, who missed half the season with an apparent back injury underwent surgery January 31, 2023 and was subsequently placed on LTIR shortly skated in 43 games during the regular season potting 17 goals, assisting on 21 others with a +11 rating.

While there are no rules in regards to circumvent the cap, by putting Stone on LTIR during the season the Golden Knights saved $9.5 million which in part helped them pick up goaltender Johnathan Quick from the Los Angeles Kings Ivan Barbashev from the St Louis Blues and Teddy Blueger from the Pittsburgh Penguins in anticipation of a long playoff run.

While Kelly McCrimmon and his staff played well between the lines, one must believe that moving forward down the line Gary Bettman will find a way so that circumstances like this where a player sits on LTIR for half a season then is allowed to be put on a roster once playoffs begin to the benefit of the team doesn't happen. Until then, let's all enjoy living a little longer in «Gary's World».
