The National Hockey League is a business first and for most, som times teams decide to move on from players for various reasons. They either want to cash in on their value, trade them for assets or as we've see in recent years, trade good players for cap space.
Throughout the off-season, the Carolina Hurricanes had made defender Brett Pesce available for trade, now according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman Carolina has taken him off the trade market; take a look.
Pesce, 28, is a shut down defenceman who skated in all 82 games for the Hurricanes last season while putting up 30 points including 5 goals and 25 assists.
The thought is that Carolina took Pesce off the trade market because they're loading up for a Stanley Cup this season and Pesce is an important part of the defence.
The past few seasons the hurricanes have iced very good teams but they're Stanley Cup aspirations have been cut short, it seems that they believe this is finally their year.
