Insider Reveals Trade Offer Between Sens and Flyers
With training camps set to open later this week, most offseason business has been handled but the Ottawa Senators still need to figure out a new contract with restricted free agent forward Shane Pinto. Reports have confirmed that both parties aren't close on a new contract.
Ottawa have less than $800,000 in available space to make a deal work. The New York native had a strong rookie season, playing all 82 games , scoring 20 goals and 35 points. On their latest episode of their 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek discuss the Philadelphia Flyers as a potential trade fit for Ottawa Senators center Shane Pinto.
The Flyers did make an offer. It would've seen Mathieu Joseph come back (along w/ Pinto) as a salary dump.
The ball is seemingly in OTT's court and PHI has kind of moved on; they "aren't expecting back" , at this moment.
The Flyers will have roughly $7.1M cap space to work with when factoring in that Ryan Ellis and his $6.25M cap hit will be placed on LTIR.
Ottawa will be reluctant to give up on Pinto but if the salary demands are too high than a trade to Philadelphia could make sense. The Flyers have the space ,draft capital to make a deal work and holes all over the lineup for Pinto to fill. We wait to see how the chips fall for Ottawa.
