In breaking news, we learned that Chris MacFarland and Barry Trotz, general managers of the Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators, agreed on the terms of a trade.
Both organizations decided to swap goaltenders: Justus Annunen is going to Nashville, while the Avalanche receives Scott Wedgewood.
The Avs also sent a 2025 6th-round pick to the Preds.
Both goalies have been underwhelming this season, but the main difference between them is their experience. Annunen is only 24 and took part in 29 games in his career. On the other hand, Wedgewood is 32 years old and played 135 games in the NHL.
This season, Wedgewood took part in five games for the Predators. He has a .878 save percentage and a 3.69 goals-against average with a 1-2-1 record.
With Juuse Saros taking part in most games for the Preds, Wedgewood didn't play much, and the team's overall struggles weighed on his statistics.
As for Annunen, he has a 6-4-0 record, a 0.872 SV%, and a 3.23 GAA.
The Avs goalie saw more action than anticipated this season due to Alexandar Georgiev's struggles but hasn't been able to find the rhythm to reach the next level.
It'll be interesting to see how the two goalies adapt to their new environment and what kind of workload they'll face.
Meanwhile, the Avalanche and the Predators are set to be in action tonight, and they'll both face great challenges.
The Avs will meet Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers on the ice, while the Predators are set to go against the Minnesota Wild.
The Oilers are off to a disappointing start too, but are always a tough team to play against. It's another story in Minnesota, where the team has been performing really well this season, and could tie the Winnipeg Jets at the first spot of their division with a win tonight.
