Colorado Avalanche Complete Trade with Columbus Blue Jackets

Just hours away from the beginning of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, we've got another trade to report.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are acquiring veteran forward Charlie Coyle in a deal with the Colorado Avalanche.

Per the latest report, the Blue Jackets have also acquired Miles Wood along with Coyle and are sending draft picks and prospect Gavin Brindley back to the Avalanche.

He was acquired by Colorado at the Trade Deadline in a deal with the Boston Bruins for Casey Mittelstadt, William Zellers and a 2nd round pick in this year's draft. He played in 13 games with the Avalanche after the trade, scoring 13 points and then added a single goal in their 7-game loss in the WCQF to the Dallas Stars.

There was an awkward moment during the playoffs when Coyle was screamed at by now-former teammate Nathan MacKinnon following a botched power-play attempt:

Before his acquisition by the Avalanche, Coyle had 22 points (15G, 7A) in 64 games with the Bruins, who failed to make the postseason and began selling off various pieces of their team at the Deadline.

Among the players Boston traded besides Coyle were Brad Marchand, Brandon Carlo, and Trent Frederic.

Coyle is entering the final year of his current contract with a $5.25 million AAV (average annual value). Originally a draft pick of the San Jose Sharks, Coyle has also played for the Minnesota Wild during his NHL career.

He has 485 points (189G, 296A) in 950 career NHL games.
