Insider Reveals That the Colorado Avalanche Rejected Three Different Offers for Star Forward
The well known Insider Nick Kypreos revealed that three teams have sent offers to the Colorado Avalanche for star forward Mikko Rantanen.
Unless he signs a contract extension before the opening of the free agent market on July 1st, many teams are poised to make an offer to the Colorado Avalanche veteran Mikko Rantanen.
Meanwhile, NHL organizations are watching the situation closely. With less than two months before the trade deadline, Rantanen could very well end up being traded if the Avs can't make a deal happen because no team would want to risk seeing a player like Rantanen leave the team for nothing in return in the summer.
In a new report from Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, we learned that the extension talks between the Avs and Rantanen aren't going anywhere as of now.
Kypreos added that Colorado already offered an eight-year $11.25 million AAV contract, but the player wants more, marking a significant discrepancy between the two sides.
Then, he revealed that three teams had made serious offers for Rantanen but were turned down by the Avs, who hope to reach a deal with the player.
In his own words:
"I'm not sure Colorado is getting traction in extension talks. There is a belief they already offered $90 million over eight years ($11.25 million AAV) earlier this season. It doesn't sound like the two sides are close, still well over $1 million apart and maybe even $2 million. So Rantanen's name is out there and if these contract negotiations don't progress soon, he'll be one of this season's biggest trade targets.
It's believed that three teams have made serious pitches for Rantanen, but have been turned down so far as the Avs still hope to re-sign him. Could Carolina have been one of them?"
With Nathan MacKinnon earning $12,600,000 a year, the organization likely doesn't want to offer more to Rantanen, especially since Cale Makar's contract will expire in two years.
We can't wait to see what will happen with Rantanen and the Avs. Stay tuned for further updates.
