The Boston Bruins and head coach Marco Sturm officially parted ways with Massimo Rizzo today in a sudden minor league trade with the Nashville Predators.

Nashville sent rugged forward Navrin Mutter to Boston.
In exchange, head coach Andrew Brunette sees Rizzo and Dalton Bancroft added directly to the Predators' prospect system.
Rizzo, who was once considered a top prospect of the Philadelphia Flyers organization, is a very underrated prospect who flourished with the University of Denver in his college days.
The clock is ticking loudly across the league.
The AHL trade deadline strikes tomorrow, forcing front offices to finalize their minor-league rosters immediately or risk losing flexibility.
And players who moved before the buzzer can still suit up in the minors.
Deals can technically happen after tomorrow, but the stakes change drastically for everyone involved.
Any player traded after the AHL deadline is completely barred from NHL action for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.
That harsh reality changes the math for general managers.
Rizzo brings a high hockey IQ and solid execution to the Nashville pipeline.
He projects as a smart playmaker who can consistently drive the transition game up the ice.

A fresh start in Smashville

Mutter gives Boston a heavy, physical presence in the locker room.
He plays a hard-nosed, aggressive game that fits the historic identity of the Bruins perfectly.
Bancroft adds another critical layer of depth for the Predators.
The organization continues to stockpile valuable assets to insulate their penalty kill from a sudden string of injuries.
But the Bruins organization clearly wanted more grit for the stretch run.
Moving two skilled assets for Mutter proves they value toughness as the playoff push intensifies across the board.
Minor-league depth often dictates postseason success.
Injuries pile up quickly in the spring, making these under-the-radar swaps incredibly valuable for a deep, exhausting run toward the show.
Neither team is done making calls.
The phones will continue to ring right up until puck drop as both clubs hunt for the final pieces of their puzzle.
Both Rizzo and Mutter now have a clean slate.
They must adapt quickly to their new locker rooms and prove their worth over the coming weeks on the ice.
The next 24 hours will define the depth charts for the entire league.
Expect more late-night movement as the final hours tick down on the 2025-26 campaign.
