When the Utah HC announced they would be entering the NHL, they made it clear they were open for business. After years in the desert. The Arizona Coyotes failed to ever make a large splash, but Ryan Smith was dead set on proving that he was here to play with the big boys.
At the NHL draft day two he made a huge splash by acquiring Mikhail Sergachev from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Tampa has traded Mikhail Sergachev to Utah for Conor Geekie, JJ Moser, 2025 2nd (TOR), and Pick #199
This is a huge move for the Tampa Bay Lightning who get the opportunity to clear more cap space, acquire more draft Capital and potentially be a bigger player in free agency.
There is no salary being retained in the trade.
