Minnesota Wild Trade Frederick Gaudreau to Western Conference Team

Early in the off-season, the Seattle Kraken traded a draft pick for Mason Marchment from the Dallas Stars, and now, they've reportedly done it again in another surprise deal.

On Thursday, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman broke the news of a shock trade, with the Kraken set to acquire Frederick Gaudreau from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a draft pick.

According to Frank Seravalli, the pick is No. 102 overall in the upcoming 2025 NHL Draft, with the Kraken set to take on the remainder of Gaudreau's deal, which is three more years with a solid salary cap hit of $2.1 million per season.

This is yet another middle/bottom six forward for Seattle, and it's unclear what their plan is moving forward, as they've now moved out another draft pick for an ageing player, with Gaudreau currently being 32-years of age.

Last season, the veteran forward tallied a solid 18 goals and 37 points in all 82 games played for Minnesota, and while the Kraken still have their picks in the top two rounds of Friday's draft, it's another surprising acquisition for them.

Ultimately, Seattle must have a plan for all of these players as they look to push for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the competitive Western Conference next season, and while Gaudreau will be a solid help for this team at the bottom of their lineup, it's safe to say that it's a surprise deal that won't have their fans overly excited at this point in time.
