The trade deadline is getting incredibly spicy, and the Buffalo Sabres are suddenly emerging from the shadows as a massive "dark horse."

With the March 6 deadline just three days away, general manager Jarmo Kekalainen is reportedly swinging for the fences.
According to insider Chris Johnston, building on a report from Darren Dreger, the Sabres are aggressively pursuing St. Louis Blues star center Robert Thomas.
The asking price is astronomical, but Buffalo is reportedly dangling the equivalent of multiple first-round picks to get a deal done.
The #sabres are viewed around the industry as a potential dark horse team that could spice up this trade deadline.

Further to @DarrenDreger report, Buffalo is believed to be dangling the equivalent of multiple 1st-rounders in Robert Thomas talks.
For head coach Lindy Ruff, adding an elite playmaker like Thomas would provide the ultimate "bump" down the middle.
The 26-year-old center carries an $8.125 million cap hit and offers the exact kind of "solid execution" and vision needed to finally push the Sabres out of their prolonged playoff drought.

Will the Buffalo Sabres pull off the blockbuster of the year?

Buffalo boasts one of the deepest prospect pools in the entire league. Offering the equivalent of multiple first-rounders likely means Kekalainen is willing to part with top-tier young talent, and of course their first-round pick.
This aggressive posture shows a Sabres front office that is completely exhausted by "clean slate" rebuilds. Landing a franchise cornerstone like Thomas would instantly elevate the entire roster, creating a terrifying monster at center alongside Tage Thompson.
The hockey world is watching Buffalo closely right now. If the Sabres pulls the trigger and meet the Blues' massive asking price, it will undoubtedly send shockwaves through the entire Eastern Conference.
