Stipulation of trade between Blackhawks/Penguins revealed
Earlier this season, in January the Pittsburgh Penguins came together on a trade that centred around Rem Pitlick being sent to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick. The conditions centered around games played and required Pitlick to play 30 games for Chicago.
With the season nearing its end, we now know that's the conditions in this deal will not be met and Pittsburgh in turn will not receive compensation.
In order for the Penguins to receive the pick, Pitlick was required to play thirty games or more for the Blackhawks. Unfortunately for Pittsburgh he factored into just nine, while skating in twenty-one for the Rockford IceHogs.
I interrupt the eclipse content to bring you some earthshaking Blackhawks news:
The 2026 7th-round pick the Hawks traded to the Penguins for Rem Pitlick had a condition of Pitlick playing 30 NHL games, per source. He only played nine, so the Hawks will keep the pick after all.
It's no secret that sometimes a trade works out for all parties involved, sometimes a trade works out for one party, and then sometimes a trade works out for nobody.
The good news for the Blackhawks is that Pitlick is about to become an unrestricted free agent and will be off the books within the next couple weeks and he will be free to sign wherever he feels he has the best chance to make the NHL next season.
