For the Edmonton Oilers this was supposed to be their breakthrough season. After losing to the Vegas Golden Knights in the Conference Finals the Oilers were a very popular pick to win this year's Stanley Cup. This season has ended up as more of a nightmare than anything else.

After 12 games the Oilers currently sit 31st in the NHL, tied with the lowly San Jose Sharks with just 5 points. The Oilers record of 2-9-1 is also one of the worst starts in franchise history. It's only a matter of time before some sort of change happens.

After last night's loss to the San Jose Sharks, the camera captured Head Coach Jay Woodcroft speaking to his assistant Dave Manson. As the two leave the ice Woodcroft can be seen clearly mouthing, "that might be it." To which Manson appears to agree.

as jay woodcroft and dave manson walk off the ice after the oilers loss to san jose, woodcroft appears to say «that might be it» to manson, who appears to respond with «yup.»

While Woodcroft is the likely easy person to blame in this situation it shouldn't fall all on his head. General Manager Ken Holland has built a flawed team that lacks both depth and goaltender. The players also appear to have given up and are no longer producing or competing, as can be seen in this embarrassing defensive shift by Leon Draisaitl.

Woodcroft will likely be the very first to go, but he should be far from the last.
