It now appears that the Boston Bruins made a major error when they signed Mitchell Miller. Despite the NHL not making it clear to their teams, Miller was reportedly ineligible of signing an NHL deal. But apparently Gary Bettman didn't make that clear to teams around the league.

Miller's contract was registered with and approved by the league, which leaves the Bruins with limited options. According to Jeff Marek of the Jeff Marek Podcast the two most likely outcome comes are, the Bruins and Miller reach a mutual agreement to terminate or a regular buyout.

Wyshynski outlined three options for the Bruins and Miller to legally part ways, although he won't be playing in the NHL or AHL prior to his release. The first option is a buyout at the end of the season, which would result in a salary cap charge of $287,222 through 2027, or twice the remaining length of Miller's entry-level contract. In this case, the Bruins would still owe Miller his contract money for the 2022-23 season, which would likely consist of his $95,000 signing bonus and $82,500 minor-league salary.

Here is how the buyout looks like on CapFriendly.com:

The Bruins will likely have no choice but to eat the salary cap penalty for their mistake. The NHLPA still has the option of appealing any decision made by the league, excluding a buyout.

The NHLPA would have to work with Eustace King and Miller, despite the fact that Miller has no NHL experience. And the last result could end up similar to Evander Kane's situation with the San Jose Sharks, termination however the NHLPA would file a grievance to prevent this from happening.

All in all the buyout would net Miller $516,667 for a weekend of being a member of the Bruins franchise.
