Los Angeles Kings star Kevin Fiala suffered a horrific injury at the Winter Olympics against Team Canada following a hit from Tom Wilson.
A truly awful scene took place in Milan on Friday as Team Canada defeated Team Switzerland by a score of 5-1.
With just a few minutes left in the game, Switzerland forward Kevin Fiala went down with a leg injury that is so severe, the cameras almost didn't show a replay.
The injury took place following a hit from Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson. The two got tangled along the boards, and Fiala took the worst of the situation.
He was subsequently placed on a stretcher and taken off face down, as he couldn't move the lower half of his body.
Based on what we are seeing here, it is very clear that Fiala's season with the Los Angeles Kings is going to be over after this.
We should note that Tom Wilson did nothing wrong here. This was a complete freak accident that sometimes happens when playing hockey.
If one thing is for certain, it is that this completely sucked the air out of the room. Everyone was stunned when it happened, and no one was smiling.
The Canadian team came out onto the ice to pay respects to Fiala, who is clearly a warrior for having gone through this with so much grace.
All we can do right now is wish the forward all of the best during what will be a truly difficult time and injury recovery.
You never want to see a player go down like this, especially when they are representing their country on the biggest stage in the world.
