Team Canada superstar and captain Marie-Philip Poulin is in a tough spot with her injury, but it looks like she could be on the verge of a breakthrough.
Marie-Philip Poulin is an absolute legend who is crucial to the success of Team Canada. This was evident as she missed a game against Team USA a couple of days ago.
The loss to the United States was a wake-up call. With Poulin out due to a knee injury, there has been this sense that without her, the gold medal is not happening.
Even with Poulin in the lineup, the Canadians will have an uphill battle trying to beat the almighty Americans.
Before that can even happen, Poulin needs to be cleared to play. This is something that has left many Canadian fans nervous.
Marie-Philip Poulin on her recent injury
On Friday, Poulin spoke to the media, and it was here that she got to talk about the injury and how she feels right now.
She noted that it still hurts, and there was a moment when she thought that maybe a return this tournament was out of the question.
You don’t want to think that way. I’d be lying if I didn’t think that…I think with the people I have around me kinda put things in perspective, go one day at a time and go from there.
Canada plays Team Germany in the quarter-finals on Saturday, and there is a lot of fanfare around whether or not Poulin will return for that one.
It's a tough situation to be in, and we will certainly be looking forward to the game and everything that comes with it.
If Canada does make it to the Gold Medal round, then there is a very solid scenario in which Poulin does make it back into the lineup.
