Colorado Avalanche forward Martin Necas and Czechia found themselves at the center of a massive international controversy during the Olympics.

It was the chaotic goal that broke the internet and completely infuriated Team Canada during their quarter-final clash at the Olympics.
Czechia managed to score a momentum-shifting goal with six skaters actively roaming the offensive zone. The referees completely missed the extra man.
It left the entire Canadian bench screaming at the officials in disbelief as the rapid transition game unfolded.
Hockey fans across North America demanded immediate answers. Everyone wanted to know how a veteran officiating crew could miss something so obvious.
Now, the absolute truth behind the madness is finally out in the open. The play was never some grand conspiracy.
Necas recently opened up and broke down the exact sequence of events that led to the blown call against Canada.
The speedy forward admitted the coaching staff decided to shuffle the lines in the third period to generate more offensive output.
Necas was suddenly slotted to play alongside veterans Tomas Hertl and Ondrej Palat. They needed a spark to break through the blue line.
The entire problem started with simple muscle memory on the bench. The Colorado star was completely used to changing with Roman Cervenka.
"Well, we must've had some miscommunication with Palič," Necas explained when breaking down the viral sequence.
He jumped over the boards to replace Cervenka on the fly. Unfortunately, Palat jumped into the play at the exact same time.
That simple bench miscue created an unintended numerical advantage. The ensuing rush featured crisp passing and ended with the puck in the net.
Necas only realized the glaring error during the loud goal celebration. He looked across the ice at David Pastrnak and noticed too many bodies.
"I say 'dude, there's somehow too many of us here, something's off,'" he laughed. "But if you wanna beat Canada, you gotta try everything."

Necas ended his explanation making light of the situation saying, "If you want to beat Canada you have to try everything". It almost worked too, but to the joy of Canadians, Canada was able to tie the game late and secure the win in overtime.
