With Team Canada set to take on Team Czechia at the Olympics on Thursday, the team has decided to take drastic measures within the Olympic village.
Going into the Winter Olympics, it looks as though Team Canada is the favorite to win the Gold Medal on the men's hockey side.
The lineup is spectacular and features some of the best players in the entire league. Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby get to play on a team together, and that is very special.
Having said that, Team Canada will only make its Olympic debut on Thursday, when they will play against the Czech Republic.
Ahead of this game, Canada has opted to make a controversial decision that is already starting to turn some heads in the Olympic village.
Team Canada takes a stand
It has been revealed that Canada will no longer be staying in the Olympic village. Instead, they are going to a five-star hotel.
As goaltender Logan Thompson explains, the team just wants to win, and getting a good night's rest is part of that.
I don’t think we’re doing it as an insult or anything like that. We want to win gold, and we want to give ourselves the best opportunity to do so.
Some are going to say that Team Canada is being soft by doing this, and that the move to a five-star hotel is a bad omen.
In fact, one could argue that Canada is doing what Marty Mauser did in "Marty Supreme." During the British Open, he begged for a five-star hotel after being placed in tight quarters with his competitors.
Clearly, Team Canada watched the move and drew some inspiration from the titular character.
