After a dirty hit to the head of Corey Perry, many expected discipline for Radko Gudas, but somehow, he's avoided the Department of Player Safety altogether.
The Anaheim Ducks picked up an upset win over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday, and while there were some great plays on either side, the biggest moment of the game came on a hit from Radko Gudas.
Behind the net, the Ducks captain caught veteran Corey Perry with a forceful elbow directly to the head, but somehow, it was missed by the officials, who have continued to come under major scrutiny in recent times.
Unsurprisingly, Oilers fans were furious after they were on the wrong side of the 3-2 result, with many calling for a suspension at the very least for the Ducks captain who laid the incredibly unnecessary hit, with analyst Louis DeBrusk joining in too.
"He pops him, that's a penalty, that was absolutely missed by the officials."
The overwhelming expectation was that the NHL's Department of Player Safety, who are in charge of protecting players to get involved and take a look at the hit that was forceful and intentional to the head of an opponent.
Somehow though, they didn't, as the 5PM deadline has come and gone with no supplemental discipline for Gudas, as the DoPS and the highly scrutinized George Parros once again making the wrong call, as this type of hit has no place in the NHL.
While it's the wrong call, it's not a surprising one, as Parros and his department have been embarrassingly inconsistent over the past few years, and if the NHL don't make any changes with the DoPS soon, it's going to come back to bite them if they continue to fail to protect their players.
