Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Alex Faulkner has tragically passed away at the age of 88.
The hockey community has become accustomed to learning heartbreaking news over the past few years as we have lost many beloved members of the community.
Most notably, we lost the Gaudreau brothers in a biking accident late last summer during the offseason.
Today, we are in mourning again as the Toronto Maple Leafs made a post honoring the memory of an alumni player.
The player in question is Alex Faulkner, who appeared in 101 career NHL games between 1961 and 1964.
100 of those games came with the Detroit Red Wings where he scored 15 goals and 32 points.
Faulkner appeared in a single game for Toronto during the 1961-62 season.
Notably, he was the first player born in Newfoundland to appear in an NHL game, creating a path to the league that many players have since followed.
He hails from the small town of Bishop Falls, which has a population of just over 3000 people as of 2021.
Luckily, Faulkner was able to live a healthy and fulfilling life, passing away at the age of 88.
Still though, it is always difficult to let someone go regardless of how old they are.
Our thoughts are with Faulkner's friends and family in this difficult time. Rest in peace Alex.
