Bobby Orr's former agent reportedly cost him 252 million dollars
Players agents are supposed to do everything in their power to take care of their clients. The agents job is often to balance getting the most money possible for their clients, while also fulfilling their wants and needs along the way. Unfortunately that's not always the case.
Recently, former Boston Bruin, Mike Milbury joined the crew of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast and discussed a deal that the Bruins once offered Bobby Orr. But Orr's agent at the time never relayed the offer to his client.
According to Milbury as Orr was attempting to try and get back in shape for an NHL return. At the time the Bruins were prepared to offer Orr 18% of the franchise as part of his contract, but Orr was never made aware of the offer.
Today the Bruins are estimated to be worth $1,400,000,000 as per Statista. That would make 18% of that deal worth $252,000,000 today. With a current net worth of approximately $5,000,000 that would have been an incredible amount of wealth for Orr.
This just add this onto stories of agents giving players bad advice and making poor choices. Last summer John Klingberg's agent cost him approximately $50,000,000 but that doesn't even pale in comparison to what Orr lost out on.
