Charlie McAvoy of the Boston Bruins has made a brazen decision after being suspended four games for a hit to the head of Oliver Ekman-Larsson the day before Halloween. According to Sportsnet Insider, McAvoy wants the league to look at his hit again, and determine whether four games was too harsh.
At the end of the day, McAvoy has nothing to lose by appealing. The NHL has no provision that allows for an appeal to lead to a longer suspension. It can only remain the same or get reduced. That said, it was a terrible hit to the head, a move the NHL wants gone as soon as possible. Personally, I'd be very surprised if any change to the original ruling comes from this. Take the L and move on.
