The waiver wire has been pretty quiet this week as team's are well into their respective schedules and are comfortable with the players they currently have.

On Wednesday however, the Boston Bruins announced that they've placed 24-year-old defenceman Ian Mitchell on waivers for the purpose of assigning him to the American Hockey League's Providence Bruins.

"Placed on NHL waivers today: Ian Mitchell (BOS)." TSN's Chris Johnston said.

Mitchell, a native of St. Albert, Alberta, was acquired by the Boston Bruins during the off-season, along with Alec Regula, from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno.

So far this season, Mitchell has appeared in two games for the Bruins where he's recorded one assist, four penalty minutes and is a plus-one.

There could be plenty of teams interested in placing a waiver claim on the right-shot defenceman on Thursday afternoon, so it wouldn't be shocking if he gets picked up at 2 p.m. ET tomorrow.
