Despite a historic regular season, the Boston Bruins were unceremoniously bounced from the 2023 NHL Playoffs in the first round by the Florida Panthers. As soon as that happened, rumours of a possible huge blow to the team started to fly.
Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, both 37, are said to be questioning whether they want to continue their pro careers or retire. The consensus seemed to be that both were leaning towards going out now rather than playing with Boston any longer. However, there's a sign that at least one of them may not be ready just yet.
A report from Boston states Bergeron has been spotted not just working out, but "working out hard", a potential sign that he's already getting prepared for 2023-24.
Losing Bergeron or Krejci would be bad enough. Both of them at the same time would leave a huge hole the team would have to fill in order to remain competitive. Despite being 37, Bergeron netted 27 goals last season, as well as 58 points. That's all while once again winning the Selke trophy as the best defensive forward in the game. Players like Bergeron just don't come along everyday.
