This season has certainly not got started the way that the Boston Bruins would have liked, but as they fight back to .500 on the season, confidence remains high that they can turn things around. However, they may now be doing so without an intriguing depth piece, as the team made the surprise call on Tuesday to waiver winger Max Jones, who has played in four games this season.
In those four games, Jones has not scored a point, but being a former first-round draft pick with 262 NHL games under his belt, it's a surprise that they would give up on such a talented young player. At 26-years of age, Jones has been a solid player for the Anaheim Ducks in recent years, posting a solid 34 points over the past two seasons before joining the Bruins this summer.
As indicated however, this move likely became inevitable yesterday after the team inked veteran Tyler Johnson to a one-year deal, and with the team needing more production from their bottom-six, waiving Jones seemed to be the choice this team wanted to make.
Jones was a first-round pick of the Ducks back in 2016, and although he's not panned out the way they would have hoped, he's clearly become a solid NHL contributor. With many teams out there looking for help in their bottom six, he now becomes a very intriguing option on waivers, with the Bruins crossing their fingers that he passes through in case of injury throughout the season, as he would be a perfect 13th forward for them if that happens.
