Nikita Zadorov signed a 6-year, $30,000,000 contract with the Boston Bruins on Jul. 1, 2024. During the press conference to introduce him, he had a request for his new team.

For twenty-four seasons Zdeno Chara who was affectionately called Big Z patrolled the blue line for the Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins Washington Capitals & New York Islanders.

On July 1st during the first day of NHL free agency, Don Sweeney & the Bruins signed Nikita Zadorov to a six-year contract. During his press conference to introduce him to the press, the city and the team, he had a hilarious yet honest request.

It's awesome to see Zadorov show respect to the longtime captain and Bruins icon by asking the media not to call him Big Z. It's also rather refreshing to see a little personality come out so soon after signing a long-term deal with the club.

However, it's also entirely possible that the new second-pairing left defenceman wants to carve out his own path without having the pressure of the future hall of famers shoes to fill, whether Zadorov likes it or not, during his time with the Bruins he will constantly be under a microscope no matter the circumstance or the case. Playing on an original Six franchise is not for the faint of heart and many before the twenty-nine-year-old have failed to play well or to their potential which has left a stain on their careers. Hopefully, that won't be the case for the Russian Bear.
