Just like every season, 24-hours after the end of the NHL season, the NHL's first of two buyout window's open. With the salary cap set to climb by over 5 million dollars, it has motivated teams to find ways to get creative and try and make some big moves. For the Buffalo Sabres, after 13 consecutive years of missing the playoffs, the team is now looking to rebuild their roster once again.
After previously adding Jeff Skinner to help end the drought, the Sabres are now moving on from the 1000+ game NHL veteran according to multiple reports.
A buyout will cost the Sabres for the next 6 seasons, but the team feels that the flexibility will give them an opportunity to help fill holes in their roster. The most difficult year for the Sabres will be 2025-2026 when they must eat a cap penalty of $6,444,445.
Due to Skinner having a no movement clause, he will not need to be placed on waivers to have his deal terminated. Skinner will become a free agent who can sign for whatever team he'd like as soon as the buyout is complete.
