The general manager of Carolina is making his thoughts clear on now-former Hurricanes forward Mikko Rantanen after his trade to the Dallas Stars.
Nearly as quickly as it began, the Mikko Rantanen era with the Carolina Hurricanes came to a close.
He was traded to the Dallas Stars earlier today; the Stars sent Logan Stankoven, a conditional 1st round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, a conditional 1st round pick in the 2028 NHL Entry Draft, a 3rd round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft and a 3rd round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.
Shortly after the trade, Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky appeared to take a shot at Rantanen on his way out the door.
I think we have a great organization. I think we have a great coach. I think we have a great locker room. But it doesn't fit for everyone, and it just didn't feel like him to him, as far as I can tell. And that's okay.
Honestly, when you look back at the whole thing, we recovered a lot there, and I'm pretty happy with where we ended up in the end.
The chance to acquire and extend one of the best forwards in the NHL is an opportunity that we couldn't pass up. He demonstrates exceptional skill and vision on the ice and his size, consistency and versatility make him one of the most complete players in the League. Mikko's experience in the postseason is an invaluable asset to our team as we work toward the goal of winning a Stanley Cup.
We are thrilled that Mikko wants to wear Victory Green and make Dallas his new home for the foreseeable future.
