Jackson Blake is out and Rod Brind'Amour suddenly loses seven regulars as the Carolina Hurricanes face Utah with a stripped lineup.

This isn't just a late scratch. It's a full lineup disruption hours before puck drop.
K'Andre Miller, Logan Stankoven, William Carrier, Jackson Blake, Taylor Hall, Mark Jankowski and Jalen Chatfield are all ruled out, each with undisclosed issues.
That's not depth. That's core usage across all four lines and two defensive pairings.
Blake's absence jumps off the page. He has 52 points and plays a direct role in Carolina's pace through the neutral zone.
Hall being unavailable removes another winger with 48 points who still gets looks on the power play.
Stankoven's 42 points leave a hole down the middle, especially for controlled entries and quick puck movement.

Hurricanes lose seven regulars before key game in sudden lineup shock

Carolina isn't coasting right now. They sit at 108 points and lead the Metropolitan Division, which makes this timing even more sensitive.
There's no room to drift. Every point still matters with teams chasing positioning behind them.
Brind'Amour now has to rebuild his top six on the fly. That means heavier shifts for Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis right out of the gate.
Expect both to double down on offensive zone starts and carry more of the puck possession load early.
On the blue line, losing Miller and Chatfield changes the entire rotation. Miller alone brings 37 points and usually handles tough matchups.
That pushes players like Shayne Gostisbehere into more minutes, especially in offensive situations and on the power play.
Penalty kill units also take a hit. Carrier and Jankowski are regular pieces there, and replacing that chemistry mid-game isn't easy.
This is where structure gets tested. Carolina's system is built on pressure and quick support, but missing this many bodies stretches it.
Ice time will spike for the core. If this game stays close, top players could push well beyond their usual workload.
There's also a mental layer. A group walking into the room and seeing seven regulars out knows the margin just got thinner.
Utah already showed they can generate offense in this matchup. That adds urgency from the opening shift.
Brind'Amour isn't known for overreacting, but this forces his hand. Line combinations, special teams, matchups - everything shifts at once.
And for the Hurricanes, this becomes more than a single game. It's a stress test of their depth, structure, and ability to absorb a hit like this without slipping.
