With the addition of Ryan Johansen on Saturday in a deal with the Nashville Predators, Colorado Avalanche centerman J.T. Compher more than likely won't be returning to the team next season and will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
There are several teams that are interested in Compher's services, but according to Jay Zawaski of CHGO Blackhawks, there is mutual interest between Chicago and the 28-year-old.
The Northbrook, Illinois native was originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres, but was dealt to Colorado in 2015 and has spent his entire NHL career with the Avalanche. In 423 games, Compher has 194 points (88 goals, 106 assists) and help the Avalanche win their third Stanley Cup in franchise history in 2022.
While Compher will more than likely want to play for a contender, the opportunity to play for a team that's less than an hour from where was born and an increased role in Chicago are two intriguing things that could draw him to the Blackhawks when free agency opens on Canada Day.
