Veterans and coaches around league reportedly complained about NHL's coverage of Connor Bedard
Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard is going to be one of the faces of the National Hockey League for the next 15+ years, so it's expected that they're going to market him heavily.
The NHL has been doing so, through social media posts and with the Blackhawks playing on national broadcasts because that's what they need to - market your superstars, something they haven't done very well in the past.
According to Emily Kaplan of ESPN, some veterans and coaches around the league were complaining about the amount of coverage Connor Bedard was receiving.
"Earlier in the season, some veteran NHL coaches & players were quietly complaining about how much media coverage Connor Bedard was getting.
But the rookie has just delivered for Chicago, again and again. Haven't heard those comments in weeks." Kaplan said.
When the league has superstar players like Connor Bedard, Connor McDavid, among others, they need to market them and use them as the faces of the sport to bring more attention to the NHL and get more people watching and coming to games, which will increase their revenue. The league has fallen behind others in North America in terms of popularity, but players like Bedard and McDavid certainly have the ability to draw attention to the sport.
