Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog hasn't stepped on the ice for an NHL game since the end of the 2021-2022 season, but fans and everyone that's curious about his status moving forward may not have to wait long for some clarity as reports indicate that a press conference featuring the star left winger and Avalanche general manager has been scheduled for 9:30 Thursday.
Landeskog, who had cartilage transplant surgery a year ago had hoped to return at some point this season but he supposedly got to the point where he felt it wasn't possible and determined it would wise to focus on whether or not he would be able to continue his career next season.
Admittedly, the Avalanche missed his presence and leadership during the playoffs this season, as aside from Nathan MacKinnon, who is arguably the best player in the league at this time, and Cale Makar, who is likely the best defenseman in the world, he's an invaluable member to the franchise.
Less than a week ago, Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar had some thoughts about Landeskog, how he wanted to play, and that his sole focus is to get to the point where he is able to join Colorado.
But it seems that Bednar and the rest of the franchise just want their captain back. They know that with the character and drive that Landeskog possesses, even if the odds are stacked against him, anything is possible.
