Gabriel Landeskog's NHL future was once up in the air, but after the latest move, it appears that the Avalanche captain's return could come sooner rather than later.
The Colorado Avalanche have long been awaiting the return of captain Gabriel Landeskog, and while he's taken steps towards a return, every time it is seemingly met with setbacks.
Now, the latest indication of a return has been revealed, as the team have now sent him to the Colorado Eagles of the AHL for a three-game conditioning stint, meaning we may see the captain on the ice again in the very near future.
If this goes well, with the Stanley Cup Playoffs around the corner, we may be seeing him on the ice for the first time in NHL action since the team won the Stanley Cup back in 2022, and with a team that's ready to do it again, the emotional boost of having their captain return could play a huge role.
At just 32-years of age, Landeskog has got plenty of time left to make an NHL return, and if he can get anywhere near 100%, the boost he would give to this team ahead of a potential matchup with the Dallas Stars would be incredible.
For now though, fans may not be getting their hopes up as they simply want to see how things go before assuming No. 92 will be back on the ice for the Avs, but if all goes well, at this point in time all signs are pointing towards the veteran captain making it back to the NHL in the very near future.
