To say the passing of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau is a tragedy would be a massive understatement. Since it happened, there has been an outpouring of support from around the world. With that being said the National Hockey League has done many things to honour Gaudreau brothers in various ways. They seem to have one more thing up their sleeve and it's quite touching
According to B/R Open Ice, every team around the National Hockey League will have a decal on the back of their helmets to honour Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau until October 24th.
With as many tributes as we've seen around the NHL in the preseason it's fitting that the NHL would adopt a decal for the brothers and let every NHL team put it on the back of their helmets. However it seems as though limiting the use of that decal until October 24th just isn't right.
Why the NHL would impose a deadline on something like just touching tribute really puts cold water on the fact that they're doing it in the first place. It's not unlike the NHL to take a good thing or a good initiative and find some way to mess it up.
The idea itself is great. I just don't think having a limited run of a touching tribute to the Gaudreau Brothers, who were taken away from their family far too soon is the way to go about it.
At the end of the day, we should be grateful that the NHL is finding ways to honour the brothers time and time again, but you can't help but think that the way they're going about this is wrong.
