The Dallas Stars are facing growing scrutiny over their role in North Texas youth hockey, and some believe a class action lawsuit may be just around the corner.
Earlier this year, a USA Today investigation revealed that certain Stars employees, who also ran youth hockey tournaments, required families to book hotels through Stay2Play LLC, a company they co-owned.
According to the report, failure to comply could result in forfeiting tournament fees, often in the thousands. This raised major conflict-of-interest concerns and left parents feeling taken advantage of.
Now, legal observers are warning the Stars' troubles may not stop at bad press.

Some critics argue this issue could escalate into a class action lawsuit targeting both the Dallas Stars and USA Hockey.
They point out that taxpayer-backed municipalities have provided land and co-signed rink construction, meaning public resources are helping fund facilities that may not be prioritizing accessibility for all children.
As one longtime hockey parent put it :
«If taxpayers are building these rinks, the programs inside should benefit the kids-not just corporate profits.»
The argument also extends to fiduciary duties: a private organization benefiting from public support has an obligation to operate transparently and without discriminatory practices.
Similar antitrust lawsuits in hockey have already been filed in other contexts, showing that the legal path exists.
Additionally, the Reddit community has amplified parent complaints, sparking wider discussion about whether oversight-especially through USA Hockey's SafeSport program-is strong enough to protect young athletes.
If a lawsuit does emerge, it could force major reforms in how youth hockey is managed in Texas, from hotel booking policies to cost structures.
