The Dallas Stars are entering the 2025-26 season with high expectations after three straight Western Conference Final appearances.
That's where Calgary Flames defenseman
Rasmus Andersson enters the conversation. According to The Hockey News, Andersson is one of the top names expected to move this season, and the Dallas Stars have already been floated as a potential destination.

Flames captain
Mikael Backlund didn't hold back when asked about the trade rumors:
«Yeah, he's getting traded. It's obvious.»
That kind of statement only adds fuel to the speculation that Andersson could soon be wearing a new sweater.
Why Andersson makes sense for the Dallas Stars' blue line
For Dallas, the appeal is obvious. Behind
Miro Heiskanen, the right side of their defense has been a lingering issue. Adding Andersson would give the Stars a proven two-way defenseman who can play heavy minutes, move the puck, and contribute on special teams.
As The Hockey News noted:
«Acquiring Andersson would be an excellent way to fix this. He could anchor their second pairing or even slot in next to Heiskanen if needed.»
The challenge is cap space. Dallas currently has just over $400,000 available, meaning any deal would require shedding salary.
A move closer to the trade deadline might make more sense, when the Stars could accrue cap space and assess where they stand in the playoff race.
In my mind, I think this is exactly the type of bold move that could push Dallas over the hump.
They have the offense to contend for a Cup, but bolstering the defense with a player like Andersson would give them one of the league's most complete top fours.
