Shortly after being eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Edmonton Oilers, the Dallas Stars have placed defenseman Alex Petrovic on waivers after a strong postseason showing.
The Dallas Stars were recently eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Edmonton Oilers in the WCF for the 2nd straight year; it was also the 3rd straight year the Stars have advanced to the WCF but were unable to punch through to the Stanley Cup Final.
Stars general manager has already made an immediate move, placing defenseman Alexander Petrovic on waivers.
Petrovic, who once played for the Oilers as well as the Florida Panthers, was in the first year of his 2-year contract with the Stars with an AAV (average annual value) of $775,000.
He played sparingly for the Stars during the regular season, spending most of his time with the AHL's Texas Stars but appeared in 17 postseason games, scoring once while adding an assist.
It's awesome for him, he deserves it. He's been grinding away in the American League for the past five, six, seven years. He did it last year for us, he's doing it this year for us. He comes in and he's so solid on the third pair. He plays the right way and he got rewarded tonight. Couldn't happen to a better guy.
Petrovic has 50 points (5G, 45A) in 269 career NHL games with the Panthers, Oilers, and Stars.
