The possibility of Joe Pavelski stepping into a leadership role with the Dallas Stars, similar to what Joe Thornton just accepted with the San Jose Sharks, is now sparking conversations.
In a recent episode of the DLLS Stars Podcast, the guys discussed how Joe Thornton's new role as player development coach and hockey operations advisor with San Jose could serve as a blueprint for the Stars.
They suggested that Jim Nill has already left the door open for Pavelski to step into a similar position once he decides to step away from the ice.
Why Joe Pavelski could thrive in a Dallas Stars player development role
The podcast hosts noted that positions like Thornton's are not about titles but presence.
«The roles are meaningless, but it just means that they are around the team, they can help the players,» they explained
They added that personalities like Thornton and Pavelski bring more than experience; they create an environment where younger players can grow both on and off the ice.
Thornton's appointment was confirmed by the Sharks last week, as noted in the official team announcement on the
Sharks' NHL page.
The Stars, meanwhile, continue to focus on their youth development pipeline, with prospects like
Mavrik Bourque and
Wyatt Johnston primed for bigger roles.
Adding Pavelski in a mentor capacity could provide a boost, much like Thornton is expected to do in San Jose.
I think having Pavelski around in this capacity would help the team's development, especially as Dallas transitions younger players into larger roles.
For reference, Pavelski's playoff experience is outlined on
HockeyDB, showing just how much wisdom he could pass on.
