Stars rumors swirl as Dallas reportedly explored Mitch Marner trade involving Jason Robertson

The Dallas Stars are once again in the hunt for a Stanley Cup, but after three straight exits in the Western Conference Final, it's clear the front office has been exploring big changes.
Dallas managed to keep several free agents this summer on team-friendly deals, but they also lost key pieces in the process.
With little cap space left, the roster looks mostly set, yet insiders believe the Stars were still searching for a right-shot defenseman, and even considering a blockbuster move for a superstar forward.
Dallas Stars reportedly looked into Mitch Marner, with Jason Robertson tied to rumors
According to Sean Shapiro, Dallas internally discussed the possibility of making a push for Toronto Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner before he landed in Vegas.
«We know Dallas had kicked around the idea of going after Mitch Marner. If they were going to get Marner, that amount of money...would have had to come from somewhere,» Shapiro explained.
That «somewhere» could have been Jason Robertson.
Shapiro added:
«Yes, the Stars did look at what a return could be on Jason Robertson. It was always going to be a roster player or part of some other bigger move.»
This isn't the first time Robertson's name has surfaced in trade chatter.
There were already rumors involving the Calgary Flames, who continue to dangle Rasmus Andersson, a player who would fit perfectly into Dallas's need for a right-shot defenseman.
Ultimately, Robertson stayed put, and Marner went to the Vegas Golden Knights without nearly as steep a price.
Still, Robertson enters the final year of his $7.75 million AAV contract before hitting RFA status again, meaning the conversation isn't over.
I think the Stars made the right call by holding on to Robertson, because swapping him for Marner never felt like a true upgrade.
