The Stars have hired a new assistant coach, and this guy brings a lot of grit
David Pelletier brings Olympic gold experience and skating expertise to the Dallas Stars coaching staff under Glen Gulutzan
The Dallas Stars are adding a unique presence to their coaching staff this season, and it's not a name most fans expected to see behind the scenes.
For the first time in his career, David Pelletier will work for an NHL organization other than the Edmonton Oilers, where he was first hired back in 2014.
The 50-year-old from Sayabec, Quebec, will not be behind the bench, at least not right away.
Instead, the team confirmed he will serve as the eye in the sky during games, observing from the press box to provide insights to head coach Glen Gulutzan and his staff.
David Pelletier brings Olympic gold, skating expertise, and a decade of coaching experience to the Dallas Stars staff
Pelletier isn't just another assistant coach with a typical hockey resume.
Before his work in coaching, he was one of Canada's most decorated figure skaters, winning Olympic gold at the Salt Lake City Games in 2002.
Over the years, he was inducted into the Skate Canada Hall of Fame, the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, and the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame.
Since stepping away from competition, Pelletier has built a respected coaching career, serving as a skating instructor with the Oilers for 11 years while also spending time as an assistant coach with the University of Alberta and as a skills coach with the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL.
For Dallas, his role will be about refining technique and offering a different set of eyes from above, something the Stars believe can help them stay sharp in a competitive Central Division.
I think his Olympic-level background could bring a fresh perspective to the team.
