The Detroit Red Wings are right on the cusp of a Stanley Cup Playoffs run this year, but now, their Head Coach has delivered some brutal injury news.
Not long ago, the Detroit Red Wings were sitting atop the Wild Card race in the Eastern Conference, but with momentum against them in recent times, the odds are now heavily stacked against them.
With 11 losses in their last 14 games, the Red Wings now sit three points and four spots back of the Montreal Canadiens for the final spot in the Wild Card race, but now, the've suffered another blow.
On Saturday when asked about veteran goaltender
Petr Mrazek, Head Coach Todd McLellan had no injury update, which certainly isn't a good sign for his potential return at some point during the regular season.
With Mrazek out, the team will continue to lean on veteran Cam Talbot, who himself has been dealing with injuries as of late, and at this point in time, it's hard to see how the Red Wings can fight through these injuries when their backs are already up against the wall in the post-season race.
On top of that, young winger
Elmer Soderblom, who has been a fairly solid contributor for this team in 23 games will be unlikely to play on Tuesday, meaning that they'll need to fight hard in a must-win game if they are to save their season from falling apart completely.
Looking at these lines, it's hard to deny that the high end talent for Detroit to compete is there, but unfortunately, with the injuries and some tough games coming up against St. Louis, Carolina and two against the Florida Panthers, things are only getting tougher.
