Evander Kane is not holding back on an incident that happened at the World Championships today. The Edmonton Oilers forward went off on an incident involving Joe Veleno of Team Canada and Switzerland captain Nino Niederreiter, adding it's why fighting needs to stay in the NHL.

The Stomp

In the second period of a 3-2 Canada loss to Switzerland today, Veleno used his skate to literally stomp on the foot of Niederreiter. It's difficult to see it as anything other than intentional. The worst part is the officials missed it, and Veleno was not given a penalty.

While retweeting a video of the incident, Kane called it "disgusting," and "embarrassing," and says it's the perfect example of why fighting is needed in the NHL. IIHF tournaments frown upon dropping the gloves and it usually leads to a suspension.

"This is why fighting in Hockey is needed, it discourages ideas like this and helps police the game effectively. Disgusting play to watch. Especially after my injury this year. Embarrassing."

The injury Kane is referring to was when he had his wrist cut by the skate of Pat Maroon early in the 2022-23 season. He missed over 30 games because of it.
