The Calgary Flames are certainly in need of a re-tool after not making the playoffs last year, after hiring a new general manager and head coach, it looks like this hard-nosed player won't be returning to the Flames next season.
According to Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK Television and the Vancouver Athletic, the Flames have given forward Milan Lucic permission to speak with teams ahead of free agency opening July 1st; Take a look.
The front runners for the big forward's services appear to be the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers.
At 35, many thought Lucic might hang up the skates, but if the world championships were any indication, he still has some gas in the tank.
Lucic skated in 77 games with the Flames last season scoring 7 goals and adding 12 assists for a total of 19 points. Mostly used in a 4th line role, he proved that along with hitting anything and everything, he can still find a way to be an offensive contributor.
It wouldn't surprise me of someone takes a chance on him, especially given the fact that he'll like sign a 1.5 million or below.
It'll be interesting to see if getting a head start on free agency means his name is one of the first off the board come July 1st
