Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid was asked about his future on Thursday, and it led to an answer that will scare a lot of Oilers fans senseless.
Connor McDavid spoke to the media today after losing a second-straight Stanley Cup Final, and it is clear that there is a lot weighing on the superstar.
When asked whether or not he would ever leave Edmonton, the forward gave a brutally honest answer that is going to scare a lot of fans in Alberta.
Simply put, he wants to win and get over the finish line with the Oilers, but he still has to do what is right for his family.
We're holding this together, trying to get it over the finish line. With that being said, ultimately still need to do what's best for me and my family, and that's who you have to take care of first.
McDavid is still under contract with the Oilers for one more season before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2026. Next summer, he is expected to receive a record-breaking contract.
If the forward decides to test free agency and not sign with the Edmonton Oilers, then the ensuing bidding war is going to be biblical.

Of course, in free agency, one of the teams interested would be the Toronto Maple Leafs. They are McDavid's hometown team, and some believe he could go there.
However, it is more likely that McDavid goes to a franchise with an actual shot at winning. Going to the Leafs would just be a lateral move at this point.
Leafs fans probably don't want to hear that, but it is the truth. Teams like the Florida Panthers, Las Vegas Golden Knights, and Tampa Bay Lightning would probably have better opportunities.
Of course, McDavid could always just play for the Oilers and sign a four-year deal in the same vein as Auston Matthews. No matter what, this situation will be fascinating.
